Head of Key Stage 4 and College Link

Miss Higgins Head of Key Stage 4 and College link

Miss Higgins has been at Bower Grove School for 6 years; she has been a lead form tutor for classes in Key Stage 3 and 4 and has been a Physical Education and Personal development teacher at Bower Grove. Her responsibilities oversee Key Stage 4 and include all pastoral and safeguarding care for children in years 10 and 11. Miss Higgins developed the World beliefs curriculum and helped gain (SMSC) Spiritual Moral Social and Cultural Gold certificate and currently runs our school council. Miss Higgins is part of the Kent Special Educational Trust (KsENT) Careers destination working party. Miss Higgins has previously worked in mainstream schools as a PE teacher in her early career days.

Mrs Ribbans-Opara Governor with responsibility for Careers

Mrs Ribbans-Opara has been a Governor at Bower Grove for nearly 2 years. She is Vice Principal in charge of Curriculum, Learning and Progress at an 11-18 Comprehensive Academy in Tunbridge Wells. Mrs Ribbans-Opara is passionate about supporting young people as they find their place in society. She has worked closely with post-16 educators for a number of years and was once Assistant Principal in charge of Sixth Form at a school in Purfleet, Essex. She is happy to support in any way she can to help set every young person on a path that is tailored for them and will leave them feeling happy, successful and fulfilled wherever life takes them.

Mrs Flisher: Careers and Personal Development Lead

Mrs Flisher began working at Bower Grove School in 2016 as an LSA (Learning Support Assistant) and since 2018 has been a Key Stage 2 Class Teacher for Years 5 and 6. She has been Primary PD (Personal Development) Lead for a number of years and has also mentored Trainee Teachers as part of the Schools Direct programme at Bower Grove.

As of September 2024, Mrs Flisher will be whole school SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) Lead, whole school PD Lead and will plan, deliver and assess PD, Careers and Citizenship to Key Stage 3 and 4. Her responsibilities will include being the strategic lead for World Beliefs (RE), Aspire Programme and Bower Grove's SMSC whole-school curriculum.

Mrs Flisher will work closely with the SMSC Co-Ordinator and Transition Co-Ordinator, to ensure pupils are best supported in making informed decisions about their work experience and post-16 choices, preparing them for their transition into wider society. Mrs Flisher will also be a Form Tutor, supporting pupils with their transition from Primary into Secondary and will support Year 11 pupils with their weekly college taster sessions.

Miss Fox: Vocational Co-Ordinator for Work Experience and Travel Training

Miss Fox has worked at Bower Grove for nine years. Miss Fox started in the role of a Learning Support Assistant working with both KS1 and KS2 pupils. Miss Fox then moved onto working within our Impacts classes. This led to her becoming Impacts Cover Supervisor before becoming Cover Supervisor across the school. Miss Fox has recently taken over the role of SMSC Co-Ordinator and Work Experience.

Transitional Co-Ordinator for Post 16

Mrs Cooper: Transitional Co-Ordinator for Post 16

Mrs Cooper has worked for Bower Grove for 11 years. She was a form LSA for many years with Year 10 and 11 classes.  

In 2017 Mrs Cooper took on the role of Work Experience Co-ordinator introducing many new placements for the changing cohort. Mrs Cooper has also accompanied the year 11s to college for many years and has experience of Goldwyn College, Rowhill School and Mid Kent College. In 2022 Mrs Cooper took over the Transition Co-Ordinator's post, she attends annual reviews with years 9 to 11 encouraging parents and students to visit open days at local colleges and post 16 provisions. She is here to help with any questions about post 16 and the year 11 Transition.
